Olympic hopeful Kate Levy - South Salem, NY amazing and speedy come back !!!!
The entire Antarès team had been supporting and following the progress of
Kate after her terrible accident in August 2007.
After ranking in the top 20 at the World Cup Finals in Las Vegas 2007 with
the 9 year old Belgium warm blood Vent du Nord, Kate left for Europe with him. She was competing all in various locations; including: Germany, Holland, Spain. Everything was going great until she had a bad accident with a young horse while out on a light hack at her home-base in The Netherlands and just two days before leaving for the CSIO in Gijon, Spain.
Among broken ribs, a broken tail bone and pubic bone, Kate broke her femur in 8 different places, and suffered several fractures in her hip and pelvis. She ruptured her spleen to boot. She had to go through months of intensive therapy to learn how to walk again.
Six months later, Kate was brave enough to jump again and start competing
at WEF in Wellington, Florida. She did her first Grand Prix in February to
finish 4th in the $100,000 World Cup Grand Prix, which was also part II of the Olympic trials. At the end of five grueling rounds Kate and Vent du Nord qualified for the short list for the Olympics. They will be on the US team competing in the super league in La Baule, France, Rome, Italy, and St. Gallen, Switzerland.
Congratulations Kate!
We also congratulate Antarès rider Lauren Hough and Quick Study for their
high placement as an alternate on the Olympic short list. Kate and Lauren are competing among a group of amazing U.S. riders who are sure to make Americans proud this summer during the Olympics.
Best of luck to all from Antarès.
